first having loaded up the camera
and sharpened edge of the knife blade
we go diving in the harbor
to try and find the old remains

the poem I once found on the page waiting
is poem I use now as a map
to take you where the vessel once got smashed
and pieces underwater got trapped

and what’s there at bottom waiting
we’ll see together if we swim
and all will be revealed
when we dig out what’s been hid

there’s a light tonight shining on the book of myths
a voice in me saying what I once believed don’t exist
stay with me here at the scene of the old accident
we’ll say we came here for the wreck not just the story of the wreck

open that wine that was once saved
to drink when our ship was going down
maybe last drop will transport body
to off-season cottage on shore we once found

the storm brewing that night on the birthday
we dressed up, to sail the sound
we faced the high waves that night that were breaking
could not face the storm when it came back around

and I can still feel the deck tearing
and wind blowing rain sideways
but we’ll dive back in now
and the wreck we’ll celebrate
